The library network in the University is made up of a main, general library (The Ramat Library) and four specialised branch libraries, namely, Arabic & Islamic Studies Library, Agrovet Library, Aminu Kano Law Library and Harold Scarborough Medical Library.
Outside of this formal network, many Departments and Research Centres have their collections of books and periodicals. The main Ramat Library has a collection of 298,968 volumes of books and 3,510 periodical titles out of which 500 are on current subscription. Since February 2002 the Library has been accommodated in the first phase of a definitive building which, by the completion of the second phase, should have a surface area of 15,52781 square meters, and be capable of seating 2,577 readers at a time and holding 573,612 volumes of books.
The Library enjoys depository status for all UNESCO publications. Thanks to an initiative of the Nigerian Universities Commission (NUC) in collaboration with the Open Society Institute, online access exists in the University to some 5,000 full journal texts in Business, Humanities, Social Sciences, Science, Technology and Medicine. Administratively, the Library Network is headed by the University Librarian, assisted by two Deputy University Librarians, Heads of the four branch libraries and Heads of the following divisions into which the Library is divided: Administration, Collection Development, Cataloguing, Reader's Services, Educationa and Information, Serials, Research and Bibliographic Services, and Media.
