The Computer Centre (established 1992) has become an important node in the lives of students, staff and of the University's host community. From its expansive two-floor building (previously occupied by the Ramat Library), the Centre provides Internet access via V-Sat for purposes of web-browsing, Internet telephony and e-mailing either at the Centre's cybercafe or, increasingly, through dial-up from private homes on campus. These same services are provided at the George Edington Building of the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital, which is linked by radio to the Centre.
Besides communication services, the Centre is also actively involved in training. Diploma courses are offered in Computer Science and in Information Technology, while certificate-level tuition is availabe in the following areas: data processing, Internet connectivity, desktop publishing, computer maintenance, word processing, AutoCAD, spreadsheet applications, web development, among others.
Against the backdrop of current awareness raising activities, the Centre hopes to widen the reach of its activities on campus and beyond, but more importantly, to move into more specialised areas of academic and management computing support.
The Centre is run by a full-time Head
